Sample #26
Fiber:  Wool
Weight of Skein:  57.5 grams

Appl: #1600203
Type: Polwarth
Length: 98 Yards

Spinning Equipment Used: Ashford Charkha
Direction of Twist:  S
# of Plies: 1
Finishing:  The yarn was washed, blocked and steam set with a hand held steamer.
Technique:  The Ashford Charkha is not designed for very fine yarns so I choose a medium weight yarn to spin.  The directions called for a consistent single, that is why I decided to make this simple yarn.  The diameter of the yarn is appropriately about the diameter of the spindle.  The yarn is softly spun but very strong because of the long Polwarth fleece that was used.
Uses:  Ideal for knitting a soft sweater, this yarn provides loft and warmth.  It can also be used in weft of a blanket where softness is important.

Preparation for Spinning:   Washed in very hot water with Ivory liquid, dried on a towel out of the sun.   Drumcarded and pulled into roving.

Reason for Choice of this Sample:  The Ashford Charkha is not designed for very fine yarns but is best for medium to heavy novelty yearns. This clean sound fleece was ideal for spinning soft medium weight yarns.  It is soft, lustrous and a nice staple length.
