Sample #28
Fiber:  Wool/Mohair
Weight of Skein:  60 grams

Appl: #1600203
Type: Polwarth/Doe
Length: 98 Yards

Spinning Equipment Used: Large Navajo Spindle
Direction of Twist:  Z
# of Plies: 1
Finishing:  The yarn was washed and blocked.
Technique:  This soft spun worsted thread is unlike what the Navajo's would have spun but very suitable for their spindle.  This yarn is near the diameter of the spindle and the long fibers from the Polwarth and mohair make a strong yarn even with the light twist.  The Navajo's gave many of their rug yarns heavy twist--but also spun the yarn twice.  I prefer the soft spin on this slow spindle.
Uses:  An impeccable yarn for crocheted sweaters, woven throws and soft knitted jumpers.

Preparation for Spinning: Washed in very hot water with ivory liquid, dried on a towel out of the sun.. Drumcarded and pulled into roving.

Reason for Choice of this Sample:  This clean, strong, soft fleece draws easily and smoothly.  Spun softly on the Navajo spindle it is ideal for many uses.
