Brocade or Congregated Knot

This beautiful knot is also manipulated into many more complex knots.  One of the most difficult to tie, this knot also causes incredible abrasion on the cord while tightening.

A. Twist:  The cord must be balanced for this knot to work well.  Permanently set the yarn or cord to balance.  If there is excess energy in the cord the loops on the knot will twist.

B. Density:  If the knot is to be used for ornaments, jewelry or belts; the cord must be very dense.  If the knot is to be used for embellishments and adornments on fabric, it can be relatively soft like the cord used in the polwarth sweater project..

C. Fibers:  The knot will disappear in a very fuzzy fiber.   But as the diameter of the yarn is increased the fuzziness is less and less of a problem.  Much like the fuzziness of the yak  ceased to be a problem in the large knot of the rug project.  Fibers that are smooth and can be spun dense are most suitable.

D. Textures:  this knot is not suitable for any heavy textured cord.  the silk/silk noil cord would be the limit on texture for the knot to show off well.

E. Wheel Requirements:  Any wheel that will give the diameter and desired twist should be acceptable.
