Pan Chang Knot

This knot has immeasurable possibilities.  It can be tied in countless geomentric shapes.  First learn the knot in its simlest form and work with it until the consept is understood.  Then there will not be a problem expanding the knot to the shape and form desired.

A. Twist: The knot is best displayed in a tightly twisted cord but with much care can be tied with everyday knitting yarn.  The yarn will receive consderable abrasion during knotting.

B. Density: If the knot is going to bare stress then be sure to use a dense cord.  If it is going to be sewn on a garment a light, airy yarn is acceptable.

C. Fibers: Pick a fiber suitable to the final project.  You would not choose angora for a belt or ornament but can be used for garments.  Linen, cotton and silk are most suitable for ornaments, purses and belts.

D. Textures: Textured cords can be used but size them first to keep down abrasion during the tying process.  Starch, hair spray or con starch all work well as an easy sizing.  Wash after the project is comolete to remove sizing.

E. Wheel Requirements: Use any wheel suitable for the diameter and desired twist on the cord or yan.  Even the finest threads are suitable for this knot.
