Sample #7
Fiber:  Cotton
Weight of Skein:  74 grams

Appl: #1600203
Type: Brown sliver
Length: 2145 Yards

Spinning Equipment Used: Flyer Wheel, Ratio 21:1|
Direction of Twist: Z
# of Plies: 1
Finishing:  The yarn was washed and blocked.
Technique:  The roving was fanned over the index finger and drawn out under tension.  This yields the most elasticity out of the cotton.
Uses:  If this thread were sized and dressed it could be used as warp for fine fabric--but extreme care is necessary and I recommend sizing the warp.   In the past I have woven household goods in Bronson lace from similar threads.   It is very usable as weft and a summer weight garment could be woven.  I like to crochet lace from this soft single.

Preparation for Spinning:  No additional preparation was needed for spinning.  The sliver was a first carding from the machine and was very open.

Reason for Choice of this Sample: The natural brown cotton from Sally Fox has a beautiful color, more elasticity than white cottons and feels good in my hands.  It is grown organically and contains no dyes.  This roving draws nicely.
