Sample #31
Fiber:  "Human hair"
Weight of Skein:  60 grams

Appl: #1600203
Type: Amber Rovings
Length: 78 Yards

Spinning Equipment Used: Flyer Wheel
Direction of Twist:  Z
# of Plies: 1
Finishing:  The yarn was washed, blocked and steam set with a hand held steamer.  I know I am submitting too large a sample here but the weight of the fiber makes the yardage so short, it was such fun, and I hate to cut my skeins in half.
Technique:  For the most consistent yarn, I pulled off fiber lengths from the roving and folded them in half.  The fiber was then spun long draw with medium twist.
Uses:  Human hair is not the most appealing fiber for wearing so I would recommend using this yarn for tapestry projects.  It is durable enough for rugs and very elastic.  A horse blanket would be beautiful done in each of the natural (only her hairdresser knows for sure) colors available.

Preparation for Spinning:   Fiber lengths were pulled from the roving and folded because of their long length.   Spinning from the tips or stripping the roving was not suitable for a controlled yarn.

Reason for Choice of this Sample: A most unique fiber obtained from a dear friend in New Zealand.  This fiber may not be human hair though all its properties match that of my daughters (bun test, elasticity, diameter, fiber length).  This was another great opportunity to play with new fibers.  This roving suited the need since an even consistent yarn was called for in the directions.
