Sample #22
Fiber:  Mohair
Weight of Skein:  60 grams

Appl: #1600203
Type: Yearling Doe
Length: 84 Yards

Spinning Equipment Used: Drumcarder, scotch brake flyer wheel, ratio 15:1
Direction of Twist:  S
# of Plies: Navajo 3 ply
Finishing:  The yarn was washed and blocked.
Technique:  The boufles are very well trapped in the yarn at the intersection of each chain.  This techniques is more secure than a regular three ply.   I also use the chains as a design factor.  In a smoothly spun mohair the chain will always show unlike a woolen (spun yarn).
Uses:  I designed this yarn to be knitted or crocheted into a winter sweater.  I would knit it on about size 10 needles in a garter stitch or (use) a J (size) crochet hook.   It could also be used for weft to weave jacket or sweater fabric.

Preparation for Spinning: Washed in very hot water with Ivory liquid, dried on towel, indoor in shade.  Carded on the drumcarder and pulled into roving.  The black was dyed before carding.

Reason for Choice of this Sample:  This soft animal was clean, strong and easy to work with.  A reasonably priced fleece from the county fair.
