Sample #20
Fiber:  Silk
Weight of Skein:  59 grams

Appl: #1600203
Type: Bombyx Mori sliver & Tussah noil
Length: 62 Yards

Spinning Equipment Used: Drum Carder, Flyer Wheel
Direction of Twist:  Z
# of Plies: 4
Finishing:  Washed and dried on blocker (as a balanced yarn it needed no further "setting")
Technique:  Fiber lengths were pulled from the drum carded batts and spun short draw with heavy Z twist.  The singles were folded S with extra twist.   The folded yarn was folded again into a balanced Z twisted cord.
Uses: This heavy silk shows off beautifully  as Chinese knotting-jewelry or ornamentation--Because of its solidness, strength and even textures.   It is also suitable for novelty highlights as warp or weft.  It can be used in limited quantities for knitting but would be too heavy for a whole sweater.

Preparation for Spinning: The noil was dyed with Easter egg dyes then blended with the Bombyx Mori on the drum carder.

Reason for Choice of this Sample: This blend of silk was fun and exciting.  The Bombyx gave strength and the noil interest.  This aspect of the COE left room for design.
