Sample #2
Fiber:  Wool
Weight of Skein:  59 grams

Appl: #1600203
Type: Polwarth
Length: 180 Yards

Spinning Equipment Used: Flyer Wheel, Ratio 15:1
Direction of Twist:  Z
# of Plies: 1
Finishing:  The skein was washed, blocked and steam set with a hand held steamer.
Technique:  Like in sample one the end fibers from the roving were fanned over the index finger and drawn out from the roving under tension keeping all fibers aligned.
Uses:  Strong enough for warp or weft, this yarn would weave well into a medium weight jacket fabric. With its lovely handle, I would like it crocheted into a lap throw or afghan.

Preparation for Spinning:  Washed in very hot water with Ivory liquid, dried on towel indoors out of the sun.  Carded on a Clems & Clems drumcarder and pulled into roving.

Reason for Choice of this Sample: The long staple and silky texture of this fiber makes it ideal for a medium worsted.  It wears well, doesn't pill and is very sound.  The animal is grown in clean pasture and coated 12 months of the year.
