# of Plies: 2--this yarn would not be stable as a single. I felt
multiplies appropriate in this portion of the requirements after viewing past COE
recipients' work and finding they used multiplies.
Finishing: The yarn was washed and blocked.
Technique: The roving was cut into 1 to 1 1/2 inch pieces then spun
from the center of each piece. Extra twist is added before it is wound onto the
spindles. The yarn is very unstable until it is plied. It is never a strong
yarn.
Uses: This fuzzy, fur yarn is designed for weaving or knitting fur
look alike. Use it to trim a hat or jacket or make a scarf using different colors to
get an animal skin effect.
Preparation for spinning: The roving was cut with sharp scissors into 1 to 1 1/2 inch pieces. It was spun from the center of each cut piece.
Reason for Choice of this Sample: In order to have the best results for a "fur" yarn, a very stiff fiber in roving form needs to be used. This honey colored mohair was stiff and dense--just right. Strength is not a factor as this yarn is never strong.
