Sample #10
Fiber:  Cotton
Weight of Skein:  59 grams

Appl: #1600203
Type: Colored lint & colored sliver
Length: 662 Yards

Spinning Equipment Used: Flyer Wheel, Ratio 24:1|
Direction of Twist:  S
# of Plies: 2
Finishing:  The yarn was washed and blocked, since it was balanced no further treatment was necessary.
Technique:  The roving was fanned over the index finger and drawn out under tension.  The hand carded batts were also spun in the same method.   they were plied together in an S twist under tension.
Uses:  Used as both warp and weft, this yarn will drape splendidly for clothing, especially tops and skirts.  It is soft, elastic and durable for household items such as tea towels, curtains and table runners.  The yarn glides through a standard knitting machine, even in the lace patterns and can be made into light sweaters.  Worked in filet crochet the lovely earthtones of this yearn will go with many decors.

Preparation for Spinning:  The lint was handcarded on cotton cards and made into small batts.  the sliver was ready to use as obtained.

Reason for Choice of this Sample: The colored lint was a F1 variety from Sally Fox.  It had good staple length, elasticity, strength and a unique color that would not fade in the sunlight. The sliver which is strong for a colored cotton and very elastic, complemented it nicely to produce a yarn with depth and nice handle.
