Finishing:  The yarn was dyed, washed and blocked.  No setting was necessary as the twist was balanced.
Technique: The fiber was spun dry with a short draw from handcarded batts.
Uses:  This strong, supple linen would make lovely woven table mats or pillows.  It could be used for warp or weft because of its strength.  It could be used as the heavier yarn in an overshot pattern.  This yarn is just supple enough to use for knitting a shirt.

 

Text of Description Card

Preparation for Spinning:  First I pulled off fiber lengths from the roving.  Next I combed through this with woolcarders removing all small nips and short fibers.  I spun from the batts off the carders.

Reason for Choice of this Sample:  This roving was inexpensive, easily obtainable, superior to other tows I found, with fewer nips and  a longer staple.  The very white nature of the roving makes it conducive for dyeing.

All notations that I have added that were not part of the COE are in blue.  These are important as a retrospective on the project. Though the fiber was purchased as roving, it was too lumpy to spin a consistent yarn with.  Carding it again with wool carders allowed me to remove the noil and keep only best and smoothest fiber.
