Sample #33
Fiber:  Wool
Weight of Skein:  30 grams

Appl: #1600203
Type: Romney Hogget Dyed Batts
Length: 32 Yards

Spinning Equipment Used: Scotch Brake Flyer Wheel, Ratio 14:1|
Direction of Twist:  S
# of Plies: Navajo 5 ply
Finishing:  The yarn was washed, dried on yarn blocker, steamed with hand held steamer.
Technique:  After the batts were sorted into three colors, an even Z twisted worsted single was spun.  Each of the three different colored singles were rolled into a ball and placed in butter tubs with a split in the lid to provide tension.   The three singles were plied in an S twist, Navajo plying one color of the singles at a time to achieve a variegated (not candy stripped) 5 ply.
Uses:  This yarn is suitable for knitting sweaters, especially a cable pattern (good definition), weaving jackets or blankets or crocheting heavy sweaters.   It is very durable, yet soft.

Preparation for Spinning:   The batts were sorted by color and pulled into roving.

Reason for choice of this sample:  These batts were gifted to me from the girl who started me spinning.  The batts were very well prepared from excellent fleece, and beautifully dyed.
